“What We Tackled Last Week: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Local Kitchen Equipment Service”
Commercial Kitchen Repair • New Orleans • Slidell • Gulf Coast
Every week brings something different in the commercial kitchen world; new problems, new challenges, and plenty of “you won’t believe this” moments. From bakeries firing up their first batches before sunrise to grocery stores prepping for weekend traffic, your equipment has to work as hard as you do.
At Gulf Coast Equip Care, we like to show our community what goes on behind the scenes. Here’s a look at some of the jobs we knocked out across Southeast Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi last week. The kind of work that keeps independent restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores running strong.
A Glimpse Into the Week: Real Repairs, Real Kitchens, Real Results
🔧 Diagnosing a Stubborn Steamer in Slidell
One of our techs kicked off the week with a Sterling steamer that was burning off water too quickly and shutting itself down. After isolating the issue, and testing components, we tracked it down to a faulty pressure switch causing the burner to run out of control. A fresh switch brought the unit back to operating as designed — saving the customer from a costly downtime.
🔥 Calibrating a Blodgett Oven for a Busy Kitchen
Over in Slidell, we dialed in a Blodgett oven that wasn’t holding temp the way the kitchen needed. After a full inspection and digital temperature calibration at 350°, the oven was back to baking evenly. For any restaurant running high-volume dinner service, consistent heat means consistent plates and fewer headaches for the kitchen crew.
🛠️ Upgrading a Hobart Mixer in Carriere
In Carriere, we took on a mixer upgrade project. We tore down a 60 quart Hobart, cleaned it up, sprayed it with a fresh coat of paint, and installed upgraded parts where needed. A little paint, a lot of detail work, and that mixer is ready for years of dough, batter, and everything in between.
⚙️ Keeping a Bakery’s Equipment Holiday-Ready
Independent bakeries rely heavily on mixers, proofers, ovens, and sheeters. Last week, we handled multiple tune-ups and minor repairs for bakeries gearing up for their busiest days. From fixing temperature drift in rack ovens to checking belt tension on sheeters, the goal is simple: no downtime when the rush hits.
🧰 Grocery Store Calibrations & Wrapper Repairs
Grocery deli and meat departments can’t afford slowdowns — especially on weekends. Last week we:
-
Replaced a print head on a meat wrapper
- Tuned up a scale with load cell inconsistencies
A few minutes of calibration can save hundreds.
Why We Share These Weekly Wins
We do this work quietly, behind the scenes, in kitchens most people never see. But for the crews who depend on this equipment, every repair matters.
By sharing a weekly glimpse into what we tackle, we hope to:
-
Show the range of equipment we service
-
Highlight the value of preventative maintenance
-
Build trust with independent operators
-
Shine a light on the real, unpolished work that keeps restaurants and groceries moving
No fluff. No corporate buzzwords. Just the work.
